The ABU distance learning or DLC is a program that allows students to study from anywhere in the world. It’s idle for people who can’t attend physical classes due to their Schedules. With The ABU Distance Learning centre students can study from their comfort zone and obtain a degree from One of the prestigious universities in Nigeria.

The DLC is primarily Online, students receive lectures and materials Online from their ABU DLC portal. However, Exams are written at any of the ABU-accredited centres.

The Ahmadu Bello University Distance Learning has a centre in all six geopolitical zones in Nigeria to make it easy for all its students to write their Exams.

Guess what? The DLC also has Centres in London, Dubai and Gambia, the ABU distance learning is made global so it can be accessible by anyone irrespective of where they live.

ABU Distance Learning centre School Fees

ABU DLC school fees vary by program, and fees are paid based on courses offered.

For undergraduates #10,000 per course,

That’s to say if you are offering 10 courses you’ll pay #100,000, For a Master, the school fee is #20,000

Other fees include Exam Fee which is #20,000 for both Master’s and BSc. BNSc students will have to pay an Additional #5,000

ABU Distance Learning Admission Requirements

B.Sc Business Administration

  • A minimum of Five Credits in S.S.C.E., G.C.E, O/L or equivalent. A candidate must have 5 credits in not more than two sittings. Candidates should have credit in Economics, Maths, English and any two other subjects.
  • Non-Direct Entry (i.e. 100 Level) applicant in addition to (a) above must write Universities Matriculation Examination (UME) and attain an acceptable standard in the use of English, Mathematics, Economics and any other relevant subject, as prescribed in the JAMB Brochure.
  • Direct Entry (i.e. 200 Level) Applicants with the following qualifications in addition to (a) above may be considered for admission:
  • Two A/Level passes in IJMB Examination or Cambridge Moderated Schools or Basic Studies Terminal Examination. The passes should be in any two of the following subject Economics, Accounting, Business Management, Statistics, Government and Geography. Or
  • A candidate with a Diploma in Accounting, Banking and Finance, Insurance or Management with a minimum of Merit Pass from Ahmadu Bello University may be accepted.

B.Sc Economics

All candidates applying for the Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics must have at least

  • Five credits in SSCE, SC, GCE O/L obtained at not more than two sittings. Candidates should have credit in Economics, Maths, English and any two other subjects.
  • For the Four-Year Programme, applicants must write the Universities Matriculation Examination (UME) and attain an acceptable standard in the use of English, Mathematics, Economics and any other subject.
  • Direct Entry
  • For the three-year programme for which admission is given to 200 level, prospective candidates must.
  • Satisfy the O’ Level requirements and have sat for three A’ Level subjects including Economics and must have passed them creditably.

B.Sc Public Administration

  • Five (5) O’level credits in Government/History, English Language, Maths, Economics, and any other two (2) credits in social science or Art subject in the SSCCE, WASC, NECO  at not more than two (2) sittings.
  • At the UTME level, candidates must write Government/History, Maths, English language and any other social science or art subject.
  • OND Holders in related courses will be admitted into 200 Level while others will be admitted into 100 Level.
  • HND Holders in related courses will be admitted into 300 Level while others will be admitted into 200 Level.

BNSc. Nursing science 

All candidates to be admitted into the BNSc. Nursing Science Programme must possess the following

  • Applicants must be nurses registered by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria
  • Applicants must possess ‘O’ Level Credit in five (5) subjects obtained in no more than two (2) sittings (SSCE, GCE or NECO)
  • Ordinary level credits must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
  • Candidates that got their Nursing license before 2005 can use whatever results they used to get their Nursing License to apply and gain admission.

Any post-basic nursing diploma is an added advantage

Successful applicants are required to present their annual license at the point of screening and those who haven’t renewed their license have to show evidence of payment for the renewal when coming for screening. ABU will also require applicants to pay 5,000 for the verification of their license with the Nursing association.

Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)

Candidates should have 5′ O Level credits including Maths and English.

Candidates who possess the following qualifications are eligible for admission into the programme: 

  • Higher National Diploma (HND) 
  • Degrees – Bachelors’ Masters’, and Doctorate. 

Masters in Business Administration (MBA)

  • Applicants must possess the basic university entry requirement of five credit passes including English and Mathematics at O’ Level (WAEC, NECO, GCE or IJMB only)
  • Applicants must possess an NYSC certificate (or exemption letter) especially for applicants under 30 years and any of (3,4,5 and 6). Graduates from NOUN, other distance learning centres within or outside the country are exempted from this requirement
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field with at least a second class lower or 2.40 Cumulative Grade Point Average from any recognized University
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field with 3rd class plus 5 years post-graduation experience or the Third class with Post Graduate Diploma
  • HND holders from any recognized Polytechnic with a minimum of Lower Credit who are holders of Post Graduate Diploma in Management may be considered.

B.Sc Accounting

Candidate must have five (5) O/Level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any other two relevant subjects.
JAMB: Use of English, Economics, Mathematics and any Management or Social Science subject.

Direct Entry

1) Candidates are expected to have a minimum of five (5) O/Level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any other two relevant subjects.
2) At least two (2) A/Level passes in Economics, Accounting, Business Management, Statistics, Government and Geography are required.
3) In addition, a Diploma in Accounting, Banking or Insurance with a minimum of Merit Pass from Ahmadu Bello University is acceptable.

B.Sc International Studies

Five ‘O’ level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Government or History and any other two Social Science subjects from Economics, Commerce, Civic Education and Geography.
JAMB: Use of English, Government/History, Economics and any other subject preferably French or Arabic.

Direct Entry

1) Two ‘A’ level /IJMB passes which must include Government/History and anyone from Economics, Sociology and Geography.
2) ABU Diploma in Political Science and International Studies with a minimum of Merit grade.

B.Sc Computer Science

Five ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other two subjects among (Chemistry, Biology, Geography and Computer Science/Data Processing).
JAMB: Use of English, Mathematics, and any two of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and Geography.

Direct Entry

1)‘A’ level/IJMB passes in English, Mathematics and any of Chemistry, Physics, Biology,
Geography, Geology and Data Processing/Computer.
2) NCE in Computer Science and any of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and Geology.
3) National Diploma (ND) in Computer Science with Upper Credit in addition to
O/L requirements.
4) ABU Diploma in Computer Science with a minimum of merit grade in addition to
O level requirements.

B.Sc Political Science

Five ‘O’ level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Government or History and any other two Social Science subjects from Economics, Commerce, Civic Education and Geography.
JAMB: Use of English, Government/History and any other two subjects from Economics, Geography, Civic Education, Commerce.

Direct Entry

(1) Two ‘A’ level /IJMB pass which must include Government/History and anyone from Economics, Sociology and Geography.
(2) ABU Diploma in Political Science and International Studies with a minimum of Merit grade.

 B.Sc Sociology

Five ‘O’ Level passes including English language, Economics, Mathematics and any other two (2) relevant subjects.
JAMB: Use of English Language, Government/History and two other from Economics, Geography, CRK/IRC, Commerce and Civic Education.

Direct Entry

1) Two ‘A’ level /IJMB passes in Sociology and any other subject from Government/History, Economics, Geography.
2) ABU Diploma in Social Works and Development Studies with a minimum of Merit grade.

Master in International Affairs and Diplomacy (MIAD)

To be qualified for this programme, candidates need to be a university graduate with a minimum of Second Class Lower Degree (2.2), in addition with;

• A Third Class Degree candidate must have fulfilled a 5years waiting period.

• NYSC Discharge or Certificate of Exemption/Exclusion.

• Senior Secondary Certificate (SSCE), General Certificate in Education (GCE) Ordinary Level, National Examination Council (NECO). Credit passes in at least five subjects, two of which MUST be in English language and Mathematics obtained in not more than two sittings.

Master in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice (MLCJ)

Candidates who are eligible for admission into the programme are expected to have:
• A minimum of 2nd class Bachelor’s degree from a recognised University
• Hold a 3rd class Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant working experience.

• NYSC certificate (or exemption letter) especially for applicants under 30 years

Master In Information Management (MIM)

All candidates must possess the basic university entry requirement of five credit passes including English and Mathematics at O’ Level.
• Bachelor’s degree in any field of study with at least a second class lower or 2.40 Cumulative Grade Point Average from Ahmadu Bello University or any recognized University,
• Postgraduate Diploma in Information Management (PGDIM) from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) only.

• NYSC certificate (or exemption letter) especially for applicants under 30 years.

Master In Public Administration (MPA)

First degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Local Government and Development Studies, Economics, Sociology or History with a minimum of 2.2 or third class degree with five (5) years post-graduation experience.
• NYSC Discharge or Certificate of Exemption/Exclusion
• HND with a minimum of Merit grade plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration (PGDPA) from ABU.
• Five O’ Level credits which must include English Language, Mathematic, Government/History, Economics, and any other one.

RECOMMENDED: ABU CUT OFF MARK 

Master in Public Health (MPH)

• Candidates with a basic professional degree in Medicine (MBBS) from Ahmadu Bello University or other recognised universities are to be considered primarily.
• Where vacancy exists in line with the NUC BMAS professionals in related disciplines such as Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Health Education, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Environmental Health, Anatomy, Human Physiology and other health-related disciplines will be considered.
• The candidate must also have at least a Second Class Lower (2.2) degree from Ahmadu Bello University or any other recognised University.

• NYSC certificate (or exemption letter) especially for applicants under 30 years.

Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM)

The criteria for admission into the PGDM programme will be as follows:

• O/Level Requirements: Minimum of Five (5) credits in WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, GCE, SSCE, including English and Mathematics;
With
• Higher National Diploma (HND) from recognized Polytechnic with a minimum of lower credit/merit;
Or
• Holders of any degree from a recognized University with a minimum of third class.

• NYSC certificate (or exemption letter) especially for applicants under 30 years.

Is ABU’s distance Learning Result same with On Campus results?

The answer is yes. Result is the Same as the Physical class/On-Campus result.

What’s the duration of ABU distance learning programmes

For BSc, JAMB/100 Level entry, it usually takes 4 years to complete to the programme. While for DIrect entry it takes 3years to complete the program.  In case of a strike, The Distance Learning centre doesn’t go on strike.

Is the ABU DLC exam Online?

The exam is Offline you’ll have to go to One of ABU DLC centres spread out across Nigeria to write the exam, you can go to the One nearest to You. You don’t have to stress yourself going to Zaria. But what if you are not in Nigeria? well if You stay in UAE, the UK or Gambia you can apply as the Distance learning centre have a presence in those countries.

  1. Salam, please, you did not made mention the exact fees per course of master courses. Kindly, make the break down of every fees that has to be paid to the university to be enrolled like tuition, acceptance, examination and registrable courses e.t.c
